Summary

The incumbent serves as a personal assistant in a confidential capacity working closely with the Office Head of the Office of Information and Resource Management (OIRM).  The incumbent provides administrative support to the Office Head, Deputy Office Head, and the OIRM Front Office senior staff. The incumbent must use discretion and tact while communicating frequently with the National Science Foundation and interagency contacts, typically at the highest levels of senior management.

Duties

Help

Incumbent works closely with the Office Head in management planning, meeting planning and coordination and organizing policy activities.  Specific duties include: 

Serving as a confidential assistant to the Office Head and handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion;

Serving as liaison between the OIRM and other directorates in NSF;

Working with senior staff to formulate decisions regarding business needs, improve effectiveness by monitoring and assessing complex management processes and projects by applying analytical methods and techniques;

Researching a wide variety of subjects and analyzing data and information in order to provide the Office Head with authoritative information and material with which to utilize the preparation of reports, policy documents, speeches, etc.;

Preparing agendas, briefs of files and reports for use in conference discussions and meetings;

Planning and coordinating travel, accommodations and transportation arrangements; reviewing and assessing travel requests and travel vouchers to assure compliance with Federal Travel Regulations and NSF travel policies and guidance.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-07 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience may include: performing admin. or specialized functions involving the analysis of problems to identify key elements & causes; researching to gather pertinent data; using judgment to recognize solutions; planning to organize work; coordinating logistical arrangements; and communicating orally and in writing to answer inquiries, develop reports, or deliver presentations. OR Superior Academic Achievement - having earned a Baccalaureate degree with one of the following: graduated in the upper one-third of your graduating class; and earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript, or based on courses completed during your final 2 years; OR At least one full year of graduate level education; OR A combination of post high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

To qualify at the GS-9 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature. Examples of specialized experience include: serving as a personal assistant in a confidential capacity to a senior agency official; performing management planning, meeting planning, and coordinating and organizing policy activities; performing various administrative duties independently; and completing special assignments of a high priority and sensitive nature; OR A master`s or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR A combination of post high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.
