The Utilization and Life Sciences Office (UBA00) at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) is seeking a high level Senior Scientist who will serve as an expert consultant with responsibility for NASA Biological and Physical Sciences (BPS) Division strategic and tactical vision and planning for fundamental and applied plant-related research for ground, microgravity, lunar and Mars platforms.
Summary
The Utilization and Life Sciences Office (UBA00) at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) is seeking a high level Senior Scientist who will serve as an expert consultant with responsibility for NASA Biological and Physical Sciences (BPS) Division strategic and tactical vision and planning for fundamental and applied plant-related research for ground, microgravity, lunar and Mars platforms.
Leads and develops a biological science strategic and tactical visions and plans for fundamental and applied plant research performed at KSC and elsewhere that is in line with NASA goals.
Primary Life Science work and focus areas will be on plant growth, space crop production, and plant microbe interactions.
Supports projects that include coordinating and conducting research, project planning, requirements definition, hardware development and operation for life sciences research projects.
Attend and present in technical and scientific meetings and review publications related to plant growth, space crop production, and plant microbe.
Support interface meetings with internal/external scientists and principal investigators in mission development, execution, and close-out phases for studies, experiments, and projects.
Supports ground-based research projects and/or ground operation and spaceflight support activities, including launch and landing site science preflight and recovery activities.

Qualifications
In addition to the basic education requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS14), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
To Qualify for the GS-15: Specialized experience includes experience demonstrating expert knowledge of plant research with expertise in one or more areas of plant biology, and skill conducting experimental research on plants as related to space life sciences or controlled environments; expert knowledge of biological payloads designed and built for flight to the International Space Station and/or implementation on other spaceflight platforms; and expansive and multiple publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
