Summary

Collect capillary or venous blood specimens and prepares specimens for analysis, insure that the physiologic state of the properties is maintained using proper hospital/regulatory agency guidelines and using excellent customer service skills/laboratory professionalism.
Perform various filling duties including laboratory requisitions, reports to providers, and re-stocking supplies.
Perform limited patient laboratory testing including the quality control and quality assurance required by regulatory agencies/laboratory policy.
Must pass pre-employment examination.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): For positions at GS-4 and above: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled.

Education and Training
For GS-3: Successful completion of (a) a full-time training course of approximately a year's duration in a medical or clinical laboratory assistant (or technician) school that included instruction in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology (including serology) and that, in addition, included supervised laboratory practice incident to the diagnostic process and the treatment of patients; or (b) 1 year of study that included at least 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or biological science.
For GS-4: Successful completion of (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; (b) 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of the training course as described in (a) above for GS-3; or (c) 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled.
For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to the position to be filled.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-04: Six (6) months of General Experience and 6 months of Specialized Experience and/or 2 years above high school with courses related to the occupation. GS-05: One (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level and/or 4-year course study above high school leading to bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation. GS-06: One (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level.
Examples of Specialized Experience: GS-04: With work being planned by supervisor and audited/reviewed; collect blood samples by venipuncture, heel sticks or capillary collection with supervision and few redraws; use venipuncture tube appropriately with few redraws ; process specimens correctly with few patient call backs. GS-05: With some work being planned by supervisor and audited/reviewed; collect blood samples by venipuncture, heel sticks or capillary collection with minimal supervision and redraws; use venipuncture tube appropriately causing no redraws; process specimens correctly with rare patient call backs. GS-06: Works independently with expert level experience; expert in blood collection and specimen processing with rare redraws or patient callbacks.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
