Qualifications

The incumbent will use their experience, background, training, and education to publish books and articles on naval and maritime history.
The incumbent will be strongly encouraged to take advantage of the original documentary sources available in the Naval Historical Collection. The incumbent will have a direct teaching role in the Graduate Certificate in Maritime History (GCMH) and will have the opportunity to teach in other capacities at the NWC for which they are suited.
The college is a tenure-granting institution.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education


A Ph.D. in history, war studies, or other related fields is required. A record of successful academic publications is preferred. The HHC particularly seeks an historian of the U.S. Navy since 1900 or a related sub-field. Candidates must be U.S citizens capable of obtaining a Department of Defense security clearance at the SECRET level.

Salary Considerations: Salary is competitive and is accompanied by a generous Federal Civil Service package that includes health insurance, pension and retirement savings plans (with employer matching contributions), paid vacation and sick leave, and other benefits. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and credentials in accordance with Department of the Navy Faculty Pay Schedule.
