Duties

Help

The incumbent serves as a Visual Information Specialist responsible for developing and applying core visual identity for NSF.

Major Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Performs graphic design and visual communication planning and development, web content design along with photography and videography.  
  • Develops branding visuals (logo, color palette, typography, iconography, photos, and imagery) and readable guidelines to include managing its implementation. Identifies, proposes and manages implementation of brand guidelines and assets adjustments, and brand refreshes based on current trends or mission needs.
  • Leads outreach initiatives for the visual identity team.
  • Designs, layout, and produces a variety of materials for digital and print platforms, including, but not limited to, info graphics, brochures, flyers, fact sheets, forms, booklets, signage, social media charts and diagrams, reports, web banners, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Coordinates and participates in the planning and development of visual information requirements in computer logos, graphics, mobile applications, electronic publications, digital publishing, interactive publication design, exhibit design and other digital input and output technologies.
  • Suggests and implements workflow solutions both within the OLPA and in coordination with other offices and clients. Confers with all levels of NSF management during developmental stages of major visual information initiatives to help define objectives, recommend solutions, set timelines and determine best practices.
  • Performs official photography duties on behalf of OLPA and the Foundation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in federal service performing operational work in support of multimedia activities. Examples of experience include: providing photography services to support an organization, planning, directing and coordinating the release of electronic and other multimedia programmatic information; increasing operational efficiency/visual identity/awareness across digital platforms; developing visual guides to deliver consistent content for an organization’s website, videos, and social media campaigns.

In addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements described above, all candidates must meet the following selective factor.  Candidates who do not show that they meet the selective factor will no longer receive consideration for the position.

Selective Factor: Experience serving as an official photographer for a mid to large size federal agency.

Upon referral to the hiring manager, candidates will be asked to provide portfolio of  5-7 work examples and 3 references.  Work examples must be original work by the applicant. Acceptable file formats are JPG and PNG. The following best qualified criteria will be used in considering interviewees:

  • Graphic Design experience
  • Photography experience
  • Adobe Creative Cloud proficiency
  • Customer service background

Education

Education may enhance skills required for this position; however, no substitution of education for specialized experience may be made at this level.
