What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

Salary: $64,009 (Step 01) to $83,210 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

Duties

Help

As an Information Specialist within the St. Petersburg Coastal & Marine Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Assisting USGS Coastal Change Hazards and US Coastal Research Program (USCRP) to improve communication through development of journal papers, briefing documents, web pages, social media content, and press releases.
  • Organizing and leading stakeholder meetings designed to identify user needs and share USGS and USCRP activities, products, and opportunities.
  • Creating and managing database to organize information associated with the USCRP funding opportunities and other program activities.
  • Organizing program meetings, science seminars, and other internal activities for staff and leadership within federal agencies, universities, and NGOs.
  • Developing and implementing communication plan and evaluating the effectiveness of communication efforts.
  • Operating a government owned or leased vehicle as an incidental driver.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?
  • Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Individuals who have delinquent account balances from a previous Government charge card will be required to satisfy their existing obligation before a new card can be issued.
  • A background investigation will be required for this position. Continued employment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.
  • You will be required to operate a government-owned or -leased vehicle in the performance of your official duties. Applicants for this position must meet the following requirements: (1) possess a valid State license, and (2) possess a safe driving record. Qualifications

In order to qualify for the GS-11 you must meet one of the following:

One year of appropriate professional experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in Federal service. Examples of such experience may include: assisting in the planning and development of scientific web page designs; disseminating scientific information through websites, presentations, social media and other multi-media outlets; writing basic web based scientific content for multi-media outlets; preparing educational and scientific exhibits for conferences, briefings, or workshops.

**OR Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education (54 semester hours or 81 quarter hours or the equivalent) leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or LL.M., in the field of study which provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
