Help

As a Director of Academy Operations, you will directly supervise Department of Public Works, Department of Public Safety, Department of Information Technology, and Administrative Services. 

The duties include:

  • Formulate plans and provide managerial expertise regarding all aspects of staff operations throughout USMMA and supports all assigned programs.
  • Provide innovative and expert leadership to strategic and workforce planning for areas of responsibility. 
  • Participate in and advise senior leadership on matters of planning, problem solving and decision-making, organizing, informing, directing and leading, allocating and managing resources, and developing at the strategic level, with the goal of realizing the Academy’s mission.
  • Provide input on the development of a vision and strategy, including the development of goals and objectives that will enable USMMA to accomplish its mission and bridge the gap between the present and future organizational requirements.
  • Coordinate administrative matters that cross organizational lines and ensures open communication between departments while addressing a number of issues for which the employee has specific administrative oversight responsibility.

  • SUPERVISORY PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year supervisory probationary period (unless already completed).
  • TIME-IN-GRADE: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
  • DEU REQUIREMENTS: Applicants selected under delegated examining procedures may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

To qualify for the Grade 15, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-14, it must include:

  • Experience with providing leadership and managerial responsibilities planning, prioritizing, and assigning work; collaborating with peers and subordinates to assure effective advisory services; and otherwise ensuring continuous progress toward stated goals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

• Accountability- Holds self and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results. Determines objectives, sets priorities, and delegates work. Accepts responsibility for mistakes. Complies with established control systems and rules.
• Change Management- Knowledge of change management principles, strategies, and techniques required for effectively planning, implementing, and evaluating change in the organization.

• Manages Resources- Selects, acquires, stores, and distributes resources such as materials, equipment, or money.
• Negotiation- Works with others towards an agreement that may involve exchanging specific resources or resolving differences.
