Duties

Help
  • Develop law enforcement programs and operating plans for the installation and is responsible for planning, supervising, and managing the operations of the division.
  • Plan for current and long-range operations based on workload trends and projected requirements.
  • Perform liaison with other military and civilian law enforcement agencies within the area to discuss problems, inter-agency support, future plans and needs, and exchange of information.
  • Advise top-level installation managers on police department issues impacting them and develops acceptable solutions to problems.
  • Make periodic on-site inspections of police patrols and activities.
  • Take disciplinary action against employees who have done a poor job or failed to follow established conduct for government employees under current laws, regulations or policies.
  • Write performance standards for subordinate supervisors and evaluates their work based on the standards established.
  • Oversee the hiring of personnel by subordinate supervisors and is personally involved in the selection of subordinate supervisory personnel.
  • Oversee the training needs of all assigned personnel and insures that all DOD police officers receive annual in-service training in order to maintain police certification.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
  • Be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
  • Maintain minimum standards as outlined in AR 190-56 and/or local policy.
  • Pass a pre-employment and annual medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability, etc.).
  • Must be qualified and certified in the use of aerosol irritants.
  • Must successfully complete law enforcement training.
  • Must wear prescribed uniform and/or protective clothing.
  • Must be certified to use police weapons, equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting equipment and automated police information retrieval systems.
  • Must file annual financial statement.
  • Pass pre-screening and periodic physical agility test requirements.
  • May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and in other situations. Overtime may be required.
  • Must be proficient in the use of firearms, passing initial qualifications and must qualify annually thereafter.
  • Subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension/detention of persons.
  • Must obtain and maintain current CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • Must pass periodic physical agility test requirements.
  • Designated Mission Essential position. Designated Key position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes which includes directing elements of law enforcement operations; supervising or critiquing the training of law enforcement personnel; providing guidance based on a broad range of knowledge of law enforcement laws and regulations; determining law enforcement resources based on operational need; analyzing the effectiveness of law enforcement response; planning patrol activities in accordance with specified threat activity; compiling detailed reports and presenting briefings to leadership. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
