Summary

The Inspector General provides leadership and coordination and recommends policies for activities designed, to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of programs and operations as well as to prevent and detect fraud and abuse in such programs and operations.  The incumbent of this position will work in the Office of Counsel for the Immediate Office of the Inspector General located in Washington, D.C.

Duties

Help

As an attorney on a particular audit, investigation, inspection, or other legal matters, or as counsel to an OIG component posing legal questions, the incumbent is responsible for the analysis of the legal issue in question, the development of the strategy to deal with the legal issue, and the content and means of delivery of the completed analysis of the legal issues. The incumbent is expected to be able to independently present legal conclusions to high-level organizational officials, outside counsel, and other interested individuals or groups.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Requirements.

  1. Has obtained the first professional law degree or training which is permitted in some states in lieu of attendance at the law school AND
  2. Is an active member in good standing in the Bar of a State, Territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. 

AND

Specialized Experience for the GS-13:

One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 performing all two (2) of the following duties or work assignments:

1. Experience advising on 2 of the following areas -  FOIA, the Privacy Act ,or other federal information or privacy related legal areas or statutes

2. Experience advising in one of the following areas - federal audits, investigations, inspections or related standards; the Inspector General Act; criminal law or procedure; or Education laws.

Specialized Experience for the GS-12:

One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 performing all two (2) of the following duties or work assignments:

1. Experience advising on FOIA, the Privacy Act or another federal information or privacy area

2. Experience advising in one of the following areas - federal audits, investigations, inspections or related standards; the Inspector General Act; criminal law or procedure; or Education laws.

Telework: This position is telework eligible. At the discretion of the supervisor, generally employees may be authorized to telework one day per week if they are on regular 8-hour work schedule.  Teleworkers may participate in some Alternative Work Schedules (AWS) in combination with a Telework Agreement. However, all employees must work from the official worksite location a minimum of four (4) days per work week.  

Bargaining Unit: This position is not included in the bargaining unit.

Selections: Agencies have broad authority under law to hire from any appropriate source of eligibles and may fill a vacancy in the competitive service by any method authorized. We may make additional selections from this vacancy announcement within 90 days from the date the selection certificates are issued, should vacancies occur. We may also share selection certificates amongst program offices across the agency.
