Duties

Help

This position serves the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Health Service Corps (IHSC). The incumbent of this position performs a variety of supportive duties which facilitate the work of the dentist and dental hygienist in a detention/custodial setting. Duties include:

  • Provides patient services while working within a detention/custodial environment
  • Receives and schedules patients for treatment in a dental clinic
  • Provides chairside assistance during treatment to the dentist or hygienist
  • Prepares tray set-up and operatory for each patient
  • Performs optimum sterilization and/or disinfection procedures including instrument processing and spore testing in accordance with IHSC national policy and procedure and the CDC guidelines.

You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess the Individual Occupational Requirements and one of the following:

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must meet the following requirements according to OPM Qualification Standards:

This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement. Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75.

Education:(1) You must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in the above regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education.
Certification:2) You must be certified as a radiographer in your field.The following also meet these requirements:(1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence, as determined by OPM or the employing agency.

Possession of the requirements must be verifiable via SUBMITTING A COPY/ Annotation of the following criteria as applicable to your individual application status and your response to the assessment questionnaire:

  • Copy of complete academic transcript(s)
  • Copy of current, active radiographic certification
  • Copy of active state or national licensure as evidence of the radiographic requirement
  • Copy of the signed and dated performance letter/ certification from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others AND notation (via your resume) of the qualifying series which you hold/held in the federal government.
  • Evidence of training, experience, and competence to perform the skills to include radiographic requirement via your resume AND notation (via your resume) of the qualifying series which you hold/held in the federal government.

In addition to meeting the Individual Occupation Requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:


EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-04 grade level or equivalent performing duties::
  • Exposes and processes digital radiographs as ordered
  • Participates in the treatment procedure by retracting tissue, tongue and cheek
  • Obtains and records information related to medical-dental history of patient
  • Performs optimum sterilization, disinfection, and infection control procedures including instrument processing and spore testing OR
EDUCATION: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in a dental assistant or dental hygiene program located in the United States, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory, and accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education such as the American Dental Association's Commission on Accreditation, which included at least 24 semester hours in courses in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality, radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; and film mounting. OR

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.
