Duties

Help

This position is located in the Department of Energy, Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of Investigations.  Duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Assist with planning, coordinating and conducting analysis of undeveloped information and/or intelligence in support of criminal, civil, and administrative investigations.
  • Assist with the collection and analyze information from evidence, public or subpoenaed material, intelligence available from law enforcement activity, and various law enforcement databases to detect violations of law.
  • Utilize various law enforcement databases for sources of information, such as NCIC and FinCEN, as well as analytical software or data mining tools, such as i2 Analyst Notebook.
  • Prepare written reports of analysis that could be used in the prosecution of criminal, civil and administrative matters and/or hearings.
  • Draft, disseminate and brief analytical findings in support of ongoing investigations.
  • Assist with interviews to identify and obtain information and potential evidence to support ongoing investigations.
  • Assist with gathering data, using analytical and investigative resources, in support of subpoena requests, search warrant affidavits, and various criminal and civil proceedings (i.e., indictments, lawsuits, etc.).
  • Ensures that presentation materials are clear, concise, complete, accurate, and are presented to OI management in a timely manner.
  • Actively participates in joint investigations with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

This position requires a security clearance and is subject to drug testing. The selectee must test negative prior to being appointed to this position and will be subject to random testing thereafter. Failure to pass subsequent tests could result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the Federal service.

Upon reporting, and on an annual basis thereafter, you may be required to file a financial statement and/or a procurement

Qualifications

At the GS-7 level the applicant must have 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement; OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-5. Specialized experience includes conducting research, analysis and /or evaluations of information; conducting proactive analytical reviews to identify patterns and trends of illegal or improper activity across Departmental financial, criminal, and public record;utilizing various law enforcement databases; drafting, disseminating and briefing analytical findings in support of ongoing investigations.

At the GS-9 level the applicant must have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a  master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7.  Specialized experience includes experience includes conducting research, analysis and /or evaluations of information; conducting proactive, analytical reviews to identify patterns and trends of illegal or improper activity across Departmental financial, criminal, and public record; utilizing various law enforcement databases; drafting, disseminating and briefing analytical findings in support of ongoing investigations.


The successful applicant for this position will possess the following KSAs /competencies:

  1. Skill applying database research techniques and basic analytical and intelligence-gathering techniques sufficient to conducting records and database searches.
  2. Knowledge and awareness of criminal statutes, regulations, procedures, violations, and jurisdictions with respect to investigations.
  3. Ability to use computer hardware and software as tools for gathering and analyzing information.
  4. Skilled in written and oral communications.
