Responsible for making independent decisions regarding clinical appropriateness of interventions. Provides thorough assessment, counseling, and consultation services to residents who present for care with substance use risk factors and/or mental health disorders. Interviews individuals and family members to explore and analyze factors influencing personality development and family structure in relation to the development of symptomatic behavior patterns and complicated interpersonal problems. Determines facts and conditions surrounding the difficulties in coping with various life situations and draws conclusions as to the underlying causes/contributing factors of the problems and the associated consequences to individual residents and their families. Independently devises workable treatment plans (e.g., individual counseling, family counseling, referral for higher-level treatment, etc.) and provides direct treatment using a wide variety of techniques for the resolution of personal, social, or environmental difficulties related to substance use disorders.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: For GS-11: performs intensive and wide range of social work services including moderate technical difficulty including evaluation, consultation, counseling, referral, psychotherapy, crisis intervention and treatment of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders to patients and families. For GS-12: providing a full range of professional clinical mental health services of complex technical difficulty including evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, counseling, referral, psychotherapy, crisis intervention and treatment of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders to patients and families.
Selective Factor: This position requires a current, unrestricted U.S. State license as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW) to make independent decisions regarding clinical appropriateness of interventions.
