Duties

Help
  • Serves as an information security specialist primarily concerned with the overall safeguarding of national security information, with emphasis on classified or other sensitive information originated or controlled by DA/DoD elements.
  • Serves as a senior Security Specialist, technical advisor, and subject matter expert, conducting on-site physical audits and/or Communications Security cont.
  • facility approval/physical security inspections of existing or newly established COMSEC facilities, COMSEC accounts, and user accounts worldwide.
  • Serves as a team member on a Key Management Infrastructure (KMI) compliance, audit, inspection, and physical security inspection team on COMSEC.
  • Plans, develops, and/or modifies techniques and methods, conducts, analyzes, and interprets the results for audit/reviews assignments cont.
  • using a variety of modern professional accounting and auditing principles, standards, methods, and techniques to include interviews, computer and statistical analysis, and questionnaires.
  • Trains lower graded employees in the audit and inspection process and provides assistance with unusual issues/conditions.
  • As the technical expert in the area of administrative accounting and physical protection, develops/revises existing policy and procedures for administrative accounting and physical protection of operating COMSEC accounts.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance based on a T5 (or equivalent level) investigation with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
  • Required to perform Temporary Duty (TDY) travel within and outside the continental United States approximately 40% of the time. May also be entitled to hazardous duty differential for service performed at designated foreign areas.
  • This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.

Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience working with Communications Security (COMSEC) regulations, policies, and procedures to audit and inspect COMSEC facilities, equipment, and COMSEC accounts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS - 11).

Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
