About the Position: You will serve as a Human Resources Assistant (Military/Office Automation) in a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), providing administrative support to the Reception-Administration Control Desk (RACD), Record Maintenance & Accountability, and Enlistment Processing to include fingerprinting of applicants with the Boise MEPS. Duties

Help
  • Greet and account for visitors/applicants in and out of the MEPS.
  • Muster applicants for processing and enlistment ceremonies, administer pre-oath briefings, also brief applicants on MEPS procedures.
  • Question applicants to obtain and/or verify complete data required for final data processing of forms and records for entry into the military service.
  • Gather information, not previously disclosed, which would bear on moral or physical suitability for enlistment.
  • Fingerprint applicants using automated systems, ensuring fingerprints are classifiable (acceptable).
  • Transmit fingerprints electronically to the investigating agency (OPM/FBI).
  • Initiate background checks.
  • Screen applicants' records to ascertain that all necessary documents are present according to the requirements of each military service.
  • Collate, reproduce, assemble and distribute applicant enlistment record documents to appropriate organizations.
  • Assemble applicant enlistment documents, in accordance with specific service requirements.
  • File incoming material in accordance with established filing system.

  • This position may require work on an occasional Saturday and/or shift work (Work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
  • This position will routinely require unscheduled overtime work to accommodate fluctuation in workload based on the daily mission requirements
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: using a personal computer or computer terminal for word processing and/or database management; questioning applicants to obtain and/or verify data; AND entering information into an automated system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).

Education

Substitution of Education: To qualify based on education you MUST have successfully completed four years of education above high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Experience and Education:
To qualify based on partial experience and partial education you must have some of the specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and have at least some education above the high school level, but less than four years. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
