This position is located in the Whistleblower Section of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Region I, Boston, MA. Incumbent serves in the Regional Office. This position provides full investigative, technical, legal, and corporate research, administrative, and informational assistance in order to support the Region I Whistleblower Program’s mission. The incumbent of this position is responsible for performing a variety of administrative, investigative and legal assistance duties pertaining to the investigator work of the Region.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-07, in the Federal Service.

Specialized Experience:  Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.   Examples of Specialized experience include:

  • Assists in the planning and conducting of investigations.
  • Provides legal and corporate research for investigators and uses knowledge and initiative in gathering facts from other agencies.
  • Compiles information, cross-checking and integrating data with information from other sources
  • Works with investigators in researching case law, jurisdictional questions, previous employer inspection/violation history, etc.
  • Produces case-related evidence for other regulatory agency(s) or parties of an investigation

OR
Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Applicants who do not meet the specialized experience described above but possess a graduate education as described below may substitute that education for the specialized experience:
For GS-9: a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree related to investigative work such as criminal justice, LLB, or J.D, Human Resources Management, industrial relations, labor relations management, Public Administration, etc.

Planning and Evaluating:  Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long- term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
