The International Trade Policy Specialist serves as a subject matter expert and key advisor in providing strategic planning and execution of trade policy that supports the ability and effectiveness of U.S. small business to compete in international markets.

Duties

Help

The International Trade Policy Specialist is responsible for;

  • Directing and managing efforts to research, analyze, develop, and implement agency-wide policies, standards and procedures to effectively develop and advance small business-focused International Trade Policy.
  • Performing a variety of policy, promotion, and analysis work to achieve the goals of small business-focused international trade policy.
  • Engaging with the private sector and other relevant U.S. government agencies in order to develop and advance solutions to specific trade barriers for U.S. small businesses resulting from foreign non-compliance with the World Trade Organization (WTO) or U.S. bilateral trade agreement obligations, including participation on the United States Trade Representative-led (USTR) Trade Policy Staff Committees (TPSC)-committees which require eligibility for access to Secret information.
  • Representing small business interests in bilateral and multilateral negotiations concerning international trade policy affecting small businesses, including foreign tariff and non-tariff/regulatory barriers to trade.
  • Actively analyzing foreign laws, regulations, and policies, especially tariff and non-tariff measures, including intellectual property rights, technical regulations, customs, trade facilitation, government in order to provide solid recommendations to management and stakeholders regarding best practices and courses of action.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

GS-14: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: 1. providing leadership, guidance, and assistance to executives, managers and employees regarding international trade policies to achieve national or international level results; and 2. conducting outreach to and assisting businesses in international trade matters; and 3. developing positions and providing input into trade negotiations and policies to benefit businesses. These qualifications must clearly be referenced in your resume.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
