Duties

Help
  • Uses emerging and state-of-the art technologies to accomplish the office's fluid media objectives. The incumbent also trains staff members and co-workers on the use of these emerging technologies.
  • Collaborates with counterparts in multiple agency components to develop new tools for agency projects.
  • Uses various forms of social media technology to engage with the public, including responding to questions on social media and the blog, live social media events...
  • (e.g. Facebook Live, Instagram Live, Twitter Chats, etc.) and to support agency communications.
  • Manages new social media communications, including but not limited to content, functionality, scheduling and execution consistent with agency mission and message.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience includes responding to public inquiries; using various forms of social media to engage with the public; developing social media strategy; and managing social media communications including content and scheduling.

Additionally, applicants must demonstrate possession of the following Selective Placement Factors (SPFs):

1. Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format, and build and maintain relationships.

To demonstrate this KSA, applicants must explicitly demonstrate 4 out of 6 of the following experience indicators:

  • Experience being an advocate of an agency or company in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues, and answering questions where appropriate.
  • Experience managing a blogger outreach program and building an active brand ambassador network to spread the word about an agency or company.
  • Experience managing day-to-day operations of a highly visible government/company website and social media presence designed both for disseminating information and services to the public and soliciting active user participation in the work of the agency/company.
  • Experience developing and managing projects resulting in active community engagement through existing and innovative social media applications.
  • Experience preparing editorial content in a format that meets web usability standards and is consistent with agency or company information design guidelines and brand image.
  • Experience communicating technical advice, instructions, and/or information to team members, management, or non-technical staff.
2. Skill in using social media platforms to target appropriate audiences for agency-related public information.

To demonstrate this KSA, applicants must explicitly demonstrate 4 out of 5 of the following experience indicators:
  • Experience managing social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, and other similar community sites, posting on relevant blogs, and seeding content into social applications as needed.
  • Experience developing, creating, and maintaining websites and social media platforms using technologies such as Web 2.0 technologies and crowd-sourcing tools.
  • Experience identifying, developing, creating, and maintaining a social media presence using a broad variety of available and innovative tools to advance agency goals and initiatives.
  • Experience creating and preparing textual content for websites that included blogs, images, videos, podcasts, RSS feeds, social media applications, and streaming audio and video.
  • Experience and a general knowledge and understanding of the Social Security and Medicare programs and experience communicating in plain language.
