About the Position: Located at Fort Hamilton in Southern New York City. Bay Ridge Brooklyn is at the base of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, is a vibrant cultural area, and only 20 minutes to mid-town Manhattan. Since spring 1998, the Fort Hamilton Military Community has been home to the North Atlantic Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; New York City Recruiting Battalion; and New York Military Entrance Processing Station. Duties

Help
  • Serves as a Supervisory Police Officer for Fort Hamilton Military Community, Directorate of Emergency Services, Police Division.
  • Serves as a Shift Supervisor for the Law Enforcement force assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations.
  • Supervisory Police Officers are responsible for responses to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service.
  • Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer.
  • Performs protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts.
  • Performs supervisory and administrative duties relating to the police force.
  • Provides response to interpreted messages, (e.g., broadcasts Attempt to Locate/Be on the lookout to patrols, types response to sending agency, briefs appropriate person as to content of message, etc.).
  • Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete the U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS) Civilian Police Academy program instruction within one year.
  • Employee must complete/pass training certification related to police work including HAZMAT Awareness; Radiation Safety; operating a special purpose vehicles; administering CPR/first aid and other emergency medical procedures and other certifications.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be certified in the use of radar detection equipment and alcohol detection equipment within 12 months of employment.
  • Requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program and is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment, which bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Government Driver's License.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to carry firearms or other weapons authorized for their jurisdictions and required to re-familiarize themselves with authorized weapons periodically and demonstrate skill/proficiency in their use.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a prescribed uniform while on duty.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) enforcing laws, regulations, policies, standards or procedures in law enforcement; 2) leading or supervising employees in the area of security or law enforcement; and (3) preparing reports such as sworn statements, affidavits, and in-depth reports pertaining to law enforcement operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).

Education
