Summary

About the Position: The position is located within the Department of Patient Administration, Outpatient Medical Records at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Bethesda, MD. The work is performed in an Office Setting. Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. The incumbent will serve as the Ambulatory Care Administration Division, Outpatient Supervisory Technician, and provide technical assistance and supervisor of staff.

Duties

Help
  • Medical records maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulated standards.
  • Determine staffing and equipment needs.
  • Supervise of the HIPAA Release of Information Program.
  • Verify proof of eligibility and requirements and provides guidance regarding confiscation of expired ID cards.
  • Ensure adequate staffing to meet mission goals.
  • Assure diagnoses and procedures are properly documented.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period may be required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving and processing requests for release of information; utilizing electronic health record systems for the creation, receipt and/or transfer of records; reviewing releases of Personal Health Information (PHI) to ensure Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance; and reviewing accuracy of records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).


Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
