As a Program Assistant, you will: 

  • Provide information on application procedures to mortgagees, on HUD's complaint process to HUD clients and provides required support including explaining procedural requirements.
  • Receive mortgage insurance packages and or appraisal packages, and reviews for proper and complete documentation and for compliance with HUD and Single Family housing requirements.
  • Initiate necessary correspondence, such as acknowledgment letters, request for additional information and transmittal memorandums filling in references, dates, citations from manual, regulations, etc., which requires researching and extracting from files and records.
  • Maintain computer system to track status of mortgagee activities, complaint and sanctioning.

The Office of Housing provides vital public services through its nationally administered programs. It oversees the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), the largest mortgage insurer in the world, and regulates important parts of the housing industry. The Office of Housing also helps ensure consumers can access housing counseling and provides affordable rental housing through its Multifamily housing program. The Office of Housing is committed to helping all Americans obtain safe, decent affordable housing.

The Office of Single Family Housing is responsible for the overall management of Single Family mortgage insurance programs for the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). The Office assists in the expansion of affordable and quality homeownership opportunities for individuals and families who are traditionally underserved by the private market.  The Office also acts as a stabilizing force in the single family home financing market by increasing access to mortgage credit.  Policies and programs administered by the Office-from becoming an FHA-approved mortgage lender or other stakeholder, to mortgage origination through post-closing and endorsement processes, servicing of FHA mortgages, and beyond-assist in the provision of these affordable mortgage programs while meeting the needs of borrowers. These functions are carried out by dedicated staff in our Washington, DC headquarters, four Homeownership Centers in Atlanta, GA, Denver, CO, Philadelphia, PA, and Santa Ana, CA, and through our National Servicing Center in Tulsa, OK.

The official duty station for this position will be in Denver, CO. Failure to report to duty at this location may be grounds for a disciplinary action, including removal.

Qualifications

For the GS-07, you must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes experience responding to and resolving customer service inquires and performing day-to-day administrative functions regarding Single Family Mortgage Insurance.

Examples of such experience could include:
- Using office automation hardware/software for customer service & data input to produce insurance documents; OR
- Reviewing insurance materials for accuracy and completion; OR
- Collecting, analyzing and reviewing information for mortgage insurance packages; OR
- Tracking correspondence regarding Single Family Mortgage Insurance.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency
