The Demographic Programs Directorate contains 5 divisions and over 75 branches. This job opportunity announcement represents multiple vacancies across the entire Directorate.

A probationary period may be required.

This position is ELIGIBLE for telework; additional criteria will be required (e.g., supervisory approval).

This is a BARGAINING unit position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Basic Entry Requirements for All Grade Levels:

A. Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.

NOTE: Additionally, to receive credit for coursework that is not catalogued on the transcript as Statistics or contain 'statistics' in the course title, applicants must attach a copy of an official course description that clarifies the course has statistical content, or written documentation which must be on official school letterhead from a professor or a school official verifying that the content of the course has either met the 50 percent statistics course requirements or was a statistical course. If you do not submit sufficient academic documentation necessary to demonstrate that you meet the eligibility and minimum qualification requirements described in this announcement, your application will be deemed incomplete and you will be ineligible for further consideration for this vacancy.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

AND

In addition to meeting the Basic Entry Requirements above, applicants must have the specialized experience listed below.

Specialized Experience:

For the GS-07, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. 

Experience for this position includes: Assisted in reviewing or analyzing data from censuses or large-scale social science or demographic surveys; using statistical software packages; using statistical research to prepare a report or presentation.

OR

You have one full year of progressively higher-level graduate education.

OR

You have superior academic achievement, which is defined as one (or more) of the following: Membership in a national honor society; graduating in the upper 1/3 of the class; earning an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.95 (on a 4.0 scale) in the final 2 undergraduate years completed; earning a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.95; earning an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.45 in the major field of study during the final 2 undergraduate years completed; or earning a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.45 in the major field of study.

For GS-09, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.

Experience for this position includes: reviewing or analyzing data from censuses or large-scale social science or demographic surveys; using statistical software packages; using statistical research to prepare a report or presentation; planning and executing projects or programs with rigid deadlines.

OR

You have completed two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or you have a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.

NOTE: Education and experience may be combined for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.

The Demographic Programs Directorate provides relevant and accurate information on the size, distribution, and characteristics of the nation's population, income and poverty, and housing. In addition to having a vital role in the Decennial Census, Demo is responsible for a vast array of surveys and data products that fill the nation's need for current information between censuses. We provide information for policy decisions to promote the economic and social well- being of the United States.

Additionally, the Directorate is responsible for: gathering international demographic data; providing survey and statistical services to other government agencies, such as survey design, data collection, and data processing; maintaining strong partnerships with sponsors and stakeholders; and designing and marketing new products that meet national and international information needs.

Divisions in the Demographic Directorate include: ADDP – Survey Operations, Demographic Systems Division, Demographic Statistical Methods Division, Social, Economic, and Housing Statistics Division, and Population Division.”

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
