Help

The incumbent of this position will serve as a supervisor in the food service section, at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Incumbent is assigned to directly supervise cook/motor vehicle operators, food service workers and Compensated Work Therapy (CWT)/ Transitional Work Experience (TVVE)/ Veterans Recruitment Appointments (VRA) Workers. Duty assignments require rotation of shifts and changes in tour of duty and duty location to meet inpatient/resident needs. When scheduled to work before and after administrative hours, weekends, and holidays, incumbent is the highest-level supervisor on duty and is then completely in charge of food service section.

Duties assigned are as follows:

· Supervises kitchen operations to include all aspects of food service and production; initiates and coordinates the planning of workflow, rotation of staff and services schedules.

· Assigns and explains work requirement to subordinates levels of supervision, cooks, and food service workers.

· Plans, initiates, coordinates and directs all the activities of the food service/production areas; such as ware washing, vegetable nourishment, ingredient control, and food production, and tray assembly areas.

· Receives, requests, and inspects all kitchen supplies and subsistence.

· Meets established deadlines for meal service in order to ensure timely tray delivery to patients.

· Observes established techniques and procedures in the operation of equipment to prevent accidents.

· Executes safety regulations; competes and compiles accident reports on employees, as per procedures.

· Prepares employees' yearly performance evaluation and competencies.

· Utilizes word processing computer programs, spreadsheets, and graphs.

· Schedules and approves leave requests of subordinate employees


Work Schedule: Full Time - Tour of Duty 5:00 am - 1:30 pm. or 11:00 am -7:30 pm.
Must be able to work weekends and holidays (as needed). Days off to be determined.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/29/2020.

Your background must demonstrate experience in: The ability to lead or supervise; ability to plan, coordinate and direct work in a food service environment, cooperating with other supervisors while determining staff schedules and task priorities for various operational needs; monitors use of employee leave, overtime/unscheduled hours; resolve personnel issues; conducts daily sanitation/safety inspections; supervises staff on acceptable hygiene practices; determines and coordinates number of staff and work schedules for adequate coverage to accomplish work; makes necessary changes to improve food service.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
