Duties

Help
  • You will install wiring, conduit, and transformers in the size, type, and arrangements needed for safe operation of electrical alarm systems and equipment.
  • You will determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to perform electronic security system maintenance.
  • You will monitor electronic circuits or test equipment to calibrate, troubleshoot, or certify electronic security systems.
  • You will operate test equipment to assess condition of fire alarm or security electronics systems.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the duties of a ELECTRONIC ALARM SYSTEMS MECHANIC under normal supervision: 1) Determine and install wiring,conduit, transformers and other electrical devices in the size, type, and arrangement needed for proper and safe operation of electrical alarm systems and equipment;2) Utilize national/local electrical codes, agency regulations, and equipment manufacturers operation/maintenance manuals to properly analyze problems and complete effective repairs; and 3) Install, maintain, repair, modify and test various security alarm systems.

A 40 hour work week is typical for this position.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Recruitment incentives may be authorized to eligible new hires.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position.


PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and platforms and where the parts of the systems worked on are in hard to reach places. The work requires considerable standing, climbing, stooping, bending, stretching and working in cramped, awkward positions on concrete or composition flooring, for extended periods of time.

Must have the ability to climb 20 to 50 feet to hanger ceilings and roofs. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally may lift items weighing over 40 pounds with assistance or weight handling equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in unlighted, unheated and enclosed areas. Works both indoors and outdoors and is usually dirty or dusty, in all kinds of weather. Subject to falls, cuts, bruises, possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, burns from soldering irons, injury from improper lifting, and illness from exposure to weather. Shops areas may be noisy.
