Duties

Help
  • Catalogs new library materials in the appropriate system in accordance with standard operating procedures, including books, serials, archives collection materials, FOIA reading room materials, CDs, DVDs, microfiche, legal publications, etc.
  • Assists in developing and administering a comprehensive collection of print, non-print, and electronic educational materials as well as a program of instructional and educational support of the mission-related requirements of the EEOC.
  • Maintains records required by the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in the Library's FOIA Reading Room.
  • Organizes, catalogs, classifies and preserves, according to archival standards, the Library archives collection, a unique collection of EEOC historical materials in print and multimedia formats.
  • Responds to requests from EEOC staff for materials unavailable in-house by providing interlibrary loan services.
  • Recommends, plans and implements new collections, bibliographic clean-up projects, cataloging projects and collection reorganization for increased patron access.
  • Performs basic online research and document retrieval in support of the Library's reference and research services functions.
  • Maintains a level of security required for the facility and documents. Instructs library personnel in the appropriate security requirements of the facility and documents.

Qualifications

For the GS-9:

To meet the Recent Graduate Program Eligibility requirements, you must have obtained a qualifying two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., related to the position., within the previous two (2) years for non-veterans and previous six (6) years for veterans.

OR

Possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level,

OR

Possess equivalent public or private sector experience which has given the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position includes: original or modified descriptive cataloging, subject analysis, and classification of a wide variety of specialized information in all formats; use of SIRSI Symphony (or similar integrated library system) and OCLC to catalog and withdraw items from the library print collection; inventorying, cataloging, classifying and preserving historical materials in print, photographic and audiovisual formats according to archival standards; fulfilling interlibrary loan requests using OCLC; providing patron instruction on the use of the library resources; searching for and retrieving documents from an online database or other electronic resource; and conducting literature searches using print and electronic sources.

PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION ELIGIBILITY:

Program participants may be converted, without a break in service, to a term, career or career conditional appointment upon completion of program requirements.
To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must:
- Complete one continuous year of work experience acquired through a Recent Graduate Program
- Complete 40 hours of formal interactive training
- Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted
- Meet any agency-specific requirements specified in the Participant's Agreement
- Demonstrate successful job performance that results in a rating of record of at least Fully Successful and a recommendation for conversion by the first level supervisor.
