Duties

Help
  • Identifies and checks to see that loading or unloading is done in a way to prevent damage and contract specifications are being followed
  • Ensures the customer understands the contractor and their own personal responsibilities in connection with the shipment of their personal property.
  • Processes inbound/outbound inspection data through Transportation Operational Property System (TOPS), Defense Property System (DPS) and/or other required systems.
  • Inspects contractor?s warehouses to determine that storage methods are proper, adequate protection is provided against fire, flooding, insects, vermin, and facility is receiving adequate community fire and police protection.

  • Position requires temporary duty (TDY) business travel approximately 20% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate valid state driver's license
  • May be required to work various hours to include holidays, weekends, or on-call duty.
  • Overtime may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays and weekends in support of related mission requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government vehicle operation certificate, within 30 days of employment.
  • A qualified typist (at least 40 wpm with 3 or fewer errors) is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes utilizing a variety of transportation regulations to assist in the packing and/or storage of a wide range of shipments related to personal property and/or shipment of privately owned vehicles; utilizing automated transportation systems to access, retrieve, and/or generate various transportation data and reports.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

About the Location: Fort Greely remote location of the Interior located in Delta Junction; approximately 100 miles southeast of Fairbanks, 365 miles northeast of Anchorage. Abundance of wildlife - fish, bear, moose, and caribou. Winter October to April, temperatures of 8 to minus 20°F with extreme lows of minus 50; summer temperatures rise into 70s/80s with up to 22 hours of daylight.
