Duties

Help
  • Conducts individual and mass counseling sessions on an appointment informing members of the entitlements and responsibilities related to the shipment/storage of personal property/household goods/privately owned vehicles etc
  • Interprets individual's orders to determine and fully explain authorized entitlements and weight allowances to the member and/or their agent.
  • Deems what is in the best interest of the government and owner in determining mode of shipment by estimated weight, cost factors, origin, destination, current regulations.
  • Provides Do it Yourself (DITTY) / Personally Procured Move (PPM) entitlement briefs to all active duty members retiring or separating.
  • Performs clerical and data entry tasks in support of above duties using the automated personal property system, computer, and a typewriter.

This position may be filled as a temporary promotion or temporary reassignment NTE 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions or reassignments may be extended up to a maximum of five years, and may be made permanent without further competition.

This position may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE 1 year, if the candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes conducting individual and/or mass counseling sessions on an appointment informing members of the entitlements and responsibilities related to the shipment, storage of personal property, household goods and/or privately owned vehicles; utilizing automated transportation systems to access, retrieve, and/or generate various transportation data and reports.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

About the location (Fort Wainwright): Fairbanks Alaska is host to many different cultures; unique shopping and dining facilities as well as sporting activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, snowboarding and skiing. We have spectacular views of the Northern Lights and larger than life ice sculptures. Population is about 87,000. Winter brings consistent snow conditions from November through March. Winter temperatures average 8 degrees F to -19 degrees F; summer temperatures rise into the 70s and 80s.
