Major Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct survey, mathematical, economic, statistical or social science research, analysis, special projects, and other duties as required.

Maintain authoritative scientific knowledge of state-of-the-art survey, mathematical, economic, statistical, and social science methods.

Advise senior NCSES leadership on survey, mathematical, economic, statistical or social science matters related to NCSES data and products.

Increase the visibility, relevance and usefulness of NCSES products within NSF; the academic community; the media; the science and engineering enterprise; federal, state and local government; and the general public.

Represent NCSES and NSF in areas of assigned responsibilities at professional meetings, conferences, and visits to industrial, academic, Federal, or nonprofit organizations; and maintains liaisons with relevant foreign and domestic organizations.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Social Science or Mathematics and Statistics, plus after award of the Ph.D., six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position; OR a Master’s Degree in Social Science or Mathematics and Statistics, plus after award of the degree, eight or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.

This position is outside the competitive civil service.
