Duties

Help
  • You will serve as a senior training instructor in the instructional areas of law and evidence, terrorism, laws of arrest, search and seizure, basic criminology, accident investigations, and other specialized areas related to law enforcement.
  • You will develop and submit recommendations to the training supervisor on course content additions, revisions, and deletions.
  • You will coordinate with other federal law enforcement instructors in developing different approaches and methods of instruction.
  • You will conduct lectures, discussion, guided conference and demonstration methods to present law enforcement instructional sessions.
  • You will serve as the Firearms Range control officer, test for weapons proficiency and provide instruction on the firing line to students.

  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to pass a yearly physical and continue to be physically fit. You will be required to pass an annual Physical Agility Test.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with grooming standards.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You may be required to obtain and maintain certification for Explosive/Hazardous Materials Driver.
  • You must have reached your 21st birthday prior to appointment.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing instruction to law enforcement personnel on the laws and regulations regarding evidence, arrest, search and seizure; 2) Providing instruction on the use of law enforcement equipment and techniques; 3) Providing instruction to law enforcement personnel on investigative procedures and methods; 4) Evaluating the performance of students in a law enforcement training environment; 5) Developing lessons plans and course materials for training programs.

You will be required to attend the Federal Law Enforcement Training Course (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia for 90 days. The agency requires 9 months of continued employment after the completion of required training from FLETC in accordance with Title 5 USC 4108 and 5 CFR 410.309. Failure to voluntarily complete length of employment can subject employee to reimburse the agency for fees, such as tuition and related fees, travel, and other special expenses (excluding salary) paid in connection with the training.

Completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program is a condition of continued employment.
Employee will be required to sign a continuing service agreement prior to travel to the academy.
Agreement to Continue in Service - CSA, Agency requires 24 month of continued employment after the completion of required training from the
FLETC in accordance with Title 5 USC 4108 and 5 CFR410.309.
Failure to voluntary complete length of employment requirement can subject employee to reimburse to the agency for fees, such as tuition and related fees, travel, and other special expenses (excluding salary) paid in connection with the training.

For qualification sustainment, each instructor shall be required to perform two full shift sustainment watches for a minimum of 16 hrs monthly.

You must successfully complete a required Police Training Acadmey or equivalent course. You must successfully complete any annual sustainment training, Level 1 Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) contamination training and OC refresher training.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

A forty hour work week is typical for this position.

Call back and emergency overtime may be requirements of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position may require conducting training on various shift working hours. Requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching, sitting, crawling and lifting and carrying of heavy objects 50 pounds or less, such as weapons and training equipment. Occasional travel is involved to field locations to coordinate training activities. Training is conducted in a classroom setting.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed where there is exposed to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness. You may be required to use protective clothing or gear. Normal work place is in an office. Duties require visitation to classrooms, conferences, firearms ranges and other training sites. Physical exposure to lead and loud noises is incurred; however, protective measures such as advanced ventilation systems and hearing protection is afforded.

A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
