Duties

Help
  • Directs the preparation of news releases, and feature articles on a wide variety of subjects for dissemination to different audiences and information media covering the activities, policies, programs and operations of the organization.
  • Arranges press conferences for the District Engineer at his request or recommends initiating such conferences based on personal cognizance of the needs of the public for information on proposed plans or current projects
  • Develops pro-active strategies to lessen or eliminate adverse publicity.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with business firms, civic groups, mass information media, and. other public information offices in the area, and city, county and state officials
  • Serves as a member of various public relations committees and attends conferences concerning interests of the District, and serves as the Commander s Congressional liaison.
  • Prepares historical information about the organization and data pertaining to current activities and future objectives for presentation in printed form such as booklets, brochures and informational kits for distribution to the general public.
  • Develops news release releases, feature stories with accompanying imagery, background statements, fact sheets radio and television spots, scripts and social media about the program and project.
  • Develops and produces written, photographic, and multimedia information materials to inform audiences and manage news media.

  • This position requires Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) up to 20% of duty time
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed
  • Incumbent must submit a Financial Disclosure Statement OGE-450 upon entering employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assist in developing, implementing, and reviewing public affairs policies, guidance, and procedures; prepare and deliver multi-media presentations; and write and edit stories and interview subject matter experts for publications and other media sources. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
