Duties

Help
  • This position serves as technical authority and provides support on Microsoft Azure and VMware virtual environments.
  • Provides technical expertise in preparing economic analysis, technical specifications, benchmark specifications, and audit/verification procedures required in support of acquisitions.
  • Provides Microsoft Azure and VMware (ESXi, vCenter, vSphere, vRealize Suite, etc.) administration with responsibility for the installation, configuration, tuning, maintenance scheduling (cont)
  • (cont) (operating system patches, firmware upgrades, hardware additions, etc.), information assurance compliance, and incident resolution for assigned servers.
  • Provides comprehensive reporting and metrics for virtual environments.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves complex problems in response to trouble reports.

Qualifications

To qualify for an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN/INFSOEC), your qualifications must include:

A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:

  • Installing, configuring and maintaining enterprise Microsoft Azure and VMware virtual environments.
  • Applying IT systems security concepts, methods and principles sufficient to identify need for changes based on new technologies or threats, coordinate security program implementation across platforms, and establish vulnerability criteria.
  • Responding to Microsoft Azure and VMware data-calls pertaining to systems and licensing.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternative, and to make recommendations.

B. Education: Applicants may not qualify for this position based on education in lieu of specialized experience.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
This position requires applicants to receive an Information Awareness (IA) certification within six months of entering the position. Employees will be required to sign a Statement of Understanding regarding the certification requirement and maintaining the required certification is a condition of employment.
