Duties

Help

As a Health Technician, GS-0640-08, you will perform the below duties:

  • Develops plans, procedures, goals and objectives in support of the Aerospace Medicine and Force Health Management Programs using an extensive knowledge of Department of Defense (DOD), Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA), United States Air Force (USAF) and Air National Guard (ANG) directives, policies and standards.
  • Manages the Reserve Component Periodic Health Assessment (RCPHA) program. Reviews military unique individual readiness requirements.
  • Determines the need for and initiates Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) actions for duty related medical conditions.
  • Provides prescreening for medical/dental/mental health and evaluation of personnel eligibility for deployment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP A - All On Board Federal National Guard Employees within VANG.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: An applicant must have a validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade. Based on the type of experiences gained through related military technical medical training schools and/or completed medical courses from private or public accredited technical schools or colleges, may include these experiences to qualify for the position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 24 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 level, or equivalent band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that is comparable to the GS grade indicated. The experience must include activities such as:

  1. Advising and making recommendations to senior officials on force health issues related to physical exams, standards and flight medicine activities to ensure compliance.
  2. Identifying documents and ensuring member is notified of abnormal laboratory or diagnostic results.
  3. Providing technical medical assistance to medical inquiries and responding to inquiry by researching, compiling information, generating response and providing information through written correspondence, telephone, electronic or in-person response.
  4. Identifying and profiling personnel with medical conditions impacting duty performance or assignment restriction

Education

Required Education - A High School Diploma with completed courses in biology, chemistry, and general science is required. College course work in health care administration, general science, biology, psychology, and chemistry is preferred. The successful completion of a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position is desired. Successful completion of one or more courses or certifications in Public Health; Operational Entomology; Center for Disease Control and Prevention Epidemiology; a Reading Aloud Test; or, a Hearing Conservation certification are required.
