Help

  • Receives orders or instructions for interventions/procedures and/or set up for interventions/procedures.
  • Answers patients' questions related to scope of practice actions during procedures/ interventions, operates, cleans, and maintains medical instruments and equipment for diagnostic and treatment procedures.
  • Sets up and adjusts specialized equipment with multiple features that requires precise patient positioning to operate correctly.
  • Performs a range of diagnostic support duties such as taking, recording, and reporting to medical or nursing professionals' deviations in vital signs.
  • Receives telephone calls and visitors to the Unit.
  • Coordinates and arranges scheduling needs for patients to continue the plan of care.
  • Establishes and maintains Radiation Oncology files/record systems.
  • Interprets requests or instructions and completes administrative processes required for action in collaboration with medical and nursing personnel.
  • Explains procedures, positions individuals for desired results, cushions and shields patients as appropriate and sets up for simple interventions.
  • Sets equipment parameters based on the patients' diagnosis or specific and/or individualized testing criteria.
  • Assists in the performance or independently performs invasive procedures within scope of practice.
  • Sets up all necessary accessories or supplies and advises other healthcare personnel of new equipment, accessories, or supplies.
  • Ensures proper cleaning and performs minor maintenance and adjustments of equipment.
  • Performs the full range of complex procedures using specialized equipment that requires precise adjustments to respond to individual patient conditions or test sequences.
  • Assists during procedures by monitoring patients' condition and recording reactions.
  • Provides assistance of technical, specialized, or support nature to healthcare personnel in the diagnosis or treatment of patient illnesses, injuries or health conditions.
  • Arranges and passes appropriate medical instruments and material to professional healthcare staff for a variety of diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Provides clerical and administrative support to the unit.
  • Maintains patients' records/charts including verification of order completion, completion of action required, scanning appropriate documents, updating demographics, and completing chart quality assurance tasks.
  • Updates assigned staff status and disposition of all Veterans within Radiation Oncology.
  • Participates in planning and development recommendations for changing program policies and procedures that will improve delivery of services and patient flow.
  • Receives and directs patients, answers routine inquires and makes referrals as appropriate.
  • Receives and responds to a number of unclear inquiries from patients concerning a variety of medical, personnel, and administrative matters.
  • Identifies and reports data relative to more complex, non-routine patient situations, including subtle changes in patients' behavior or condition or variances related to neurological signs, vital signs, or other parameters Reports any concerns to an Registered Nurse or healthcare provider.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/13/2020.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Obtaining blood specimens venous; urinary catheterization; attaching patients to monitors for continuous cardiac, oxygenation, and respiratory monitoring; performing EKGs, orthostatic blood pressures, applying cold/warm compresses, and wrapping extremities, etc.; cleaning, organizing and stocking, as well as troubleshooting, and intervening to rectify equipment malfunctions; determining technical factors, setting controls and operating equipment and instruments; Selecting and setting equipment required, and sets indicators for measurements or readings as necessary for requested procedures; assisting medical staff with or performs diagnostic procedures used to diagnose medical conditions

  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed six (6) months or nine (9) semester hours of graduate education in a degree program directly related to the work of the position as a substitution for specialized experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily physically active and requires extensive and prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, sitting and carrying of items, and involves pushing and pulling of wheelchairs/stretchers/mobile equipment. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require heavy lifting of equipment, supplies and/or patients in conjunction with patient lifting resources as available. The work requires the ability to multitask while performing administrative, clerical and clinical duties.
