NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY appointment (not-to-exceed 120 days). This appointment may be renewed for additional service in accordance with Agency needs for 1 additional year. Temporary positions offer health insurance (if the employee is expected to work at least 130 hours per month for at least 90 days) but do not offer life insurance or retirement benefits and may be terminated at any time before the expiration date. The appointment to a Temporary position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.

The Intermediate Care Technician (ITC) performs ongoing patient care duties in the Emergency Department and in the Critical Care Unit of and may assist with or perform other related technical health care procedures under the supervision of the Physicians.

Duties include but may not be limited too:

  • Providing physician supervised treatment of patients seen in the Emergency Department· Performing diagnostic tests such as Vital signs and EKG
  • Evaluating patients for emergent/non-emergent medical conditions, order appropriate diagnostic studies and perform a wide range of treatment procedures under the direction of the supervising physician
  • Conducting Point of Care testing
  • Administration of: Nebulized Medications, Topical, IV Fluids, Limited PO Meds, IM Injections, Vaccines.
  • Uncomplicated Wound Closure such as simple one-layer lacerations, Scalp lacerations, Skin Stapling, Steristrips, Dermabond·
  • Monitoring and transportation of Telemetry patients

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service; experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes experience evaluating patients for emergency conditions; ordering appropriate diagnostic studies; performing interventions based upon patient symptoms and established protocols/standards; assisting in behavioral/psychiatric situations; and assisting Emergency Department Physicians with complex, specialized, and potentially-life threatening procedures. Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive full credit.

OR

There is typically no educational substitution for the GS-07 level. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. (Transcripts Required)

Competencies:

  • Practical knowledge of major body systems
  • Working knowledge of topographic anatomy
  • Working knowledge of diagnostic signs
  • Knowledge of protocol-approved list of medications
  • Working knowledge of emergency medicine techniques and emergency communication
  • Knowledge sufficient to understand the legal considerations of emergency medicine
  • Working knowledge of acute and chronic mental health conditions and crises

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
