Help

As a Housing Program Policy Specialist, you will:

  • Provide single family housing program support and assistance in the analysis and development of policy, legislation and research for single family programs and valuation/appraisal requirements.
  • Initiate and provide leadership, coordination technical advice, guidance and interpretation of policies and procedures on Single Family housing programs and valuation/appraisal requirements for Headquarters, field office staff and affected members of the general public.
  • Prepare term sheets for the development of new regulations to implement new or revised statutory authority as it relates to single family programs and appraisal valuation requirements. Develop Mortgage Letters, standards, policies, guides, notices, processing directives, handbooks, and instructions to implement guidance.
  • Plan, initiate, and conduct analytical studies of the various aspects of single family housing procedures for the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of current policies and procedures with a view towards the development of significant improvements in policy or procedures. Collect, review and analyze a variety of data including statistical information.

The Office of Housing provides vital public services through its nationally administered programs. It oversees the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), the largest mortgage insurer in the world, and regulates important parts of the housing industry. The Office of Housing also helps ensure consumers can access housing counseling and provides affordable rental housing through its Multifamily housing program. The Office of Housing is committed to helping all Americans obtain safe, decent affordable housing.

The Office of Single Family Program Development (SFPD) is responsible for developing policies, procedures, and guidance for lenders that originate and underwrite FHA-insured single family mortgages; establishing appraisal and inspection policies and procedures; providing logistical support for approving specific FHA affordable housing programs and/or nonprofit agencies; and marketing, advertising and education initiatives supporting single family programs.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience for the GS-14 level is one year of experience at the GS-13 level, or equivalent that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes:
- Underwriting FHA single family mortgages; AND
- Communicating and developing or directing the development of new or revised policies, procedures, standards, guidance or training for government-insured, guaranteed or conventional single family home mortgage programs; AND
- Interpreting, implementing and providing technical guidance and responses on FHA or other conventional market policies, regulations and procedures governing single family home mortgage programs.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
