Duties

Help

As a Health Scientist (Informatics) you will:

  • Develop and implement scientific policies and procedures on informatics practices and principles.
  • Provide leadership in designing, coordinating, and maintaining information technology (IT) project goals, objectives, and priorities within an organization and in the general public health community.
  • Provide leadership in the development, testing, implementation and evaluation of scientific information technology and information systems needs and applicable software systems relating to public health informatics within the area of responsibility.
  • Promote the development, use and dissemination of information and information technology in regards to health data systems, with an emphasis on public health applications.
  • Plan and develop strategies for new models of health information interchange and automation in medicine and public health.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
I have a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/) at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of information systems and data structures to support data collected from public health activities.

Education

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
