Duties

Help
  • Teaching core and elective courses related to national security policy and strategy formulation, theories of war and strategy, and regional studies.
  • Reviewing course material for accuracy and relevance.
  • Providing counsel to faculty and students on subjects related to strategy, policy, international relations, government, history, strategic culture, Interagency operations, and other U.S. policy and strategy systems and procedures.
  • Designing and teaching elective courses and directed studies for selected students.
  • Coordinating with external agencies on behalf of the U.S. Army War College.
  • Engaging in service (internal and external) in support of institutional missions.
  • Serving annually as a faculty instructor for one seminar, faculty advisor for up to six students, and project advisor for student research projects.
  • Other duties may include supporting the development and execution of the National Security Policy Program and the National Security Seminar.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated based on the criteria listed below by a panel of subject matter experts appointed with the purpose of identifying the best-qualified candidates.

1. Must have an established record of superlative teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and/or Senior Service College level. Experience at the graduate or Senior Service College level is preferred.

2. Ability to prepare, teach, and lecture on subjects related to national security policy and strategy formulation, theories of war and strategy, political economy, and regional studies (Africa, Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Eurasia, Middle East, South Asia).

3. Refined oral and written communication skills, including the ability to serve as a student advisor for written research projects.

4. Must have master's degree (required) in national security studies, international relations, government, political science, history, regional studies, or related field.
