As a FABRIC WORKER (Title 32), WG-3105-10, you will

(1) Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the technician and lower graded worker(s). Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures. Estimates time, equipment and material requirements. Devises and maintains plans and records. May provide recommendations and input to supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions,and leave.

(2) Performs the full range of shop work.

(3) Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.

(4) Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.

(5) Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Grades: ENLISTED

-Maximum Military Grade: NTE SSgt/E-5

Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion). Enlisted members currently at a higher grade than allowed by the position (see Military Grade Requirement above) may apply; however, they must administratively reduce prior to appointment and provide confirmation of the reduction to HRO.

Compatible Military Assignments: Selectee must be a member of the Arkansas Air National Guard and be assigned to the 189th AW in a compatible military position in Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) 1P0X1.

Must become compatible in the AFSC within 12 months of appointment. Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to take measurements, make patterns and layouts, mark, cut, fit and sew or cement parts together, using hand or power tools and equipment and knowledge of fabrics and constructions methods.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months of the following: Experience or training reading and interpreting designs and blueprints, technical manuals, and prints, and drawing individual patterns, making alterations or adjustments to difficult patterns. Experience computing dimensions, lay out circles, angles, curves and irregular shapes. Experience planning, laying out, altering and constructing different, new or one-of-a-kind items. Experience applying mathematical principles such those used in the calculation and measurement of fabric. Experience operating, repairing, and maintaining sewing machines, punch presses and other related equipment. Experience using a variety of hand and power tools and measuring devices such as flexible measuring tapes, straight and curved rules, protractors, compasses, dividers, squares, patterns and templates.

PLACEMENT FACTORS: Applicants should demonstrate through prior experience, education and training the following: (1) Ability to plan work when detailed specifications are not available and take measurements for articles of various shapes and sizes. (2) Knowledge of shop mathematics, to include fractions, equations, and plane measurements to make difficult calculations. (3) Ability to make complicated cutting layouts involving many pattern pieces, fabrics with directional prints, or other difficult layouts. (4) Ability to draw individual patterns or alter or adjust standard patterns to fit special measurements and incorporate design proportions. Skill to fit items to spaces or locations with unique parameters, unusual shapes, or obstructions. (5) Ability to make measurements and fittings in confined spaces or alter patterns to solve individual fitting problems. (6) Ability to work with a wide variety of fabrics and materials to include newly developed materials. (7) Completion of appropriate technical school/Career Development Courses (CDCs).
