About the Position: This position is located at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Rucker is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville. Duties

Help
  • Perform a variety of difficult and complex test procedures in the clinical laboratory.
  • Provide services in support of patient treatment such as phlebotomy, specimen, processing, and shipping.
  • Assist in the training of new technicians.
  • Utilize Composite Health Care System (CHCS) computer systems for maintaining patient data.
  • Participate in researching, testing, and implementing new procedures and equipment.
  • Complete all steps in each procedure, reading, compiling, and reporting results in each area of specialization, i.e., chemistry, urinalysis, serology, and hematology.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires a Childcare Background Check (CNACI) and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties may require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Annual Influenza vaccine is required. Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced certification (e.g., Advanced Life Support) does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing laboratory tests in an area such as: chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/virology or urinalysis; performing phlebotomy; AND maintaining and/or calibrating laboratory equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Selective Placement Factor:
This position requires a minimum of an associate degree in a biological or chemical science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
AND
requires incumbent to be certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD (HA)) or their designee Center for Clinical Laboratory Medicine (CCLM) as an MLT or MT/MLS in accordance with the Department of Defense Manual (DODM) 6440.02.

OR

Incumbent must have successfully completed an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and currently hold the military enlisted occupational specialty of medical laboratory specialist (laboratory technician).

The Act directed the DHA to take responsibility for the administration (i.e., authority, direction, and control) of military treatment facilities beginning 1 Oct 18. Employees will become DoD employees upon transfer to the DHA.
