Duties

Help

As a Pathways intern, you will be introduced and provided work experience and knowledge of PBS architectural/engineering functions and operations and related GSA programs. Typical duties may include any of the following:

  • Reviewing project information including existing technical reports, project drawings and/or specifications to learn the customer, operational and technical needs.
  • Preparing preliminary drawings and other basic presentation materials related to planning and design studies executed in association with routine, smaller, less complex projects.
  • Analyzing, compiling, correlating, and reconciling technical data from a variety of sources to include in routine reports.
  • Using automated systems to enter technical data.

If selected, you must meet the following conditions:

  • Provide a copy of your most recent transcripts (unofficial) at the end of each academic year, or upon request, for verification of enrollment and academic standing.
  • Register with the Selective Service, if you are a male born after 12/31/1959.
  • Serve in a trial period for the entire duration of the internship appointment.
  • Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 1 investigation level).
  • Have your identity and work status eligibility verified if you are not a GSA employee.  We will use the Department of Homeland Security’s e-Verify system for this. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of continued employment.

Qualifications

The GS-4 salary range starts at $38,069 (San Francisco) 34,928 (San Diego) 32,180 (Honolulu) per year. If you meet the following qualifications, You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.


To qualify for the GS-4 level, you must have completed at least two full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree in a qualifying architecture or engineering program.

Education

Qualifying educational institutions/programs for Pathways include: at least two full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree in a qualifying architecture or engineering program.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

  • You will be scored on the questions you answer during the application process, which will measure your possession of the following competencies or knowledge, skills, and abilities:
    1. Developmental knowledge of the organization’s architectural/ engineering programs and operations.
    2. Skill in performing basic research and assignments associated with architectural/ engineering functions.
    3. A practical knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of architecture/engineering in order to perform routine technical work.
    4. Skill in analyzing, compiling, correlating, and reconciling data from a variety of sources.
    5. Knowledge of and ability to use applicable agency engineering/architectural automated design software to gather, format and analyze various engineering/architectural data and information.
    6. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to communicate factual information and address general program or procedural issues.
    7. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with managers and gain cooperation from others.

Your answers to the questions will be used to place you in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified [If the use of 4 categories is justified, adjust verbiage].

We will verify your answers to the questions in your resume. If your resume doesn’t support your answers, we may lower your score, which could place you in a lower category.

Within each category, veterans will receive selection priority over non-veterans.

Additional assessments may be used, and, if so, you will be provided with further instructions.
