Summary

The Central Arkansas VA Medical Center (CAVHS) in Little Rock, AR is seeking an experienced full time Physician (Teleradiologist) in the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Imaging Services. The Teleradiologist will report to the Chief of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Imaging Services.

This announcement is a Standing Register. Referrals will be made every 2 weeks from opening date of the announcement or until the position is filled.

Duties

Help

The Physician (Teleradiologist) will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:

  • Provides around the clock imaging interpretation services to remote client locations.
  • Interprets diagnostic digital radiography, CT, MRI and US examinations of the head, spine, neck, body, extremities and internal organs as appropriate.
  • Accesses studies for interpretation through the VISN 16 Picture Archiving and Communications System(s) and reports findings electronically through the VISN 16 voice-recognition dictation software.
  • Communicates and documents communication of life-threatening findings immediately to referring physicians at remote facilities.
  • Functions in a professional manner in all relationships with management, co-workers and referring physicians.
  • Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, Federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy. Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc.
  • Uses word processing software to execute several office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; activating printers; inserting and deleting text, formatting letters, reports, and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving e-mail. Uses the Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) to access information in the Medical Center Computer System
Work Schedule: Current Tour of Duty is 12 hours per day/7 days on duty, then 7 days off duty. Actual Tour of duty will be negotiable.

Note: Selectee will be required to present to VA Little Rock, AR for new employee orientation, training, issuance of required equipment, etc. Once all requirements complete, selectee will be authorized to become a virtual employee.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preference: Board certification in diagnostic radiology preferred.

Staff Physician: The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: This position requires a pre-employment physical. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far visions correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
