Duties

Help
  • Plan, organize and conduct conventional studies and surveys.
  • Compile and analyze field data and results of sample analyses.
  • Prepare written reports for review by the industrial hygienist.
  • Plan, organize and conduct industrial hygiene inspections.
  • Input results of industrial hygiene inspections into the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) computer database.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on a variety of industrial hygiene equipment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifications for the GS-07:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing automated systems and collecting samples using a variety of methods. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as occupational health, biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, mechanical engineering, physics or a related field.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Qualifications for the GS-08:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning or organizing studies or surveys, preparing equipment for inspections and preparing written reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as occupational health, biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, mechanical engineering, physics or a related field.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Qualifications for the GS-09:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting studies or surveys, analyzing data and assisting personnel with industrial hygiene inspections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

OR

Education: A Master's Degree or two full years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as occupational health, biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, mechanical engineering, physics or a related field.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
  • This position is scheduled to transfer to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) no later than 30 Sept 2021 in accordance with the provisions of Section 702 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017, Public Law 114-328. The Act directed the DHA to take responsibility for the administration (i.e., authority, direction, and control) of military treatment facilities beginning 1 Oct 18. Employees will become DoD employees upon transfer to the DHA.

This recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade of the position without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management. Duties described reflect the full performance GS-09 level. If not selected at the full performance, duties will be performed in a developmental capacity under close supervision.
