Duties

Help
  • You will use an application software (e.g., Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software) to provide status or compile statistics.
  • You will manage data contained in facilities information systems, (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Maximo) to ensure information is accurate.
  • You will prepare reports to communicate progress of engineering assignments and projects
  • You will read and interpret engineering drawing and specifications.
  • You will prepare condition assessments, job plans and cost estimates for facilities maintenance and repairs projects.
  • You will prepare detailed specifications for items and services required to complete facilities projects.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid California State drivers license.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). You must be certified as Career Field Facilities Engineering Level II. If you are not certified you must achieve certification within 24 months of appointment.
  • Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear; i.e., hard hats, coats, steel-toed boots, goggles, gloves or shields during site visits.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • The employee must be able to work overtime as required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Preparing preliminary job plans for the construction and renovation of facilities, drainage systems, streets, roads, and parking areas. 3) Determining labor, tool and material requirements for construction, renovation and maintenance projects.

This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

A 40-hour work week is typical of this position.

This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.

Relocation incentives may be authorized.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Moderate levels of physical exertion are required. He/she must be able to walk, kneel, crouch, sit climb ladders and work in limited access areas such as attics and crawl spaces beneath building. Occasionally it will be necessary to perform work in inclement weather and temperature extremes. You must be able to recognize color identification for: piping systems, electrical wiring, etc?; You may be required to work in an asbestos environment with the proper clothing and respirator protection. The incumbent may be exposed to asbestos, lead and high noise levels

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
A majority of the work is performed indoors where the employee works under the pressure of time and budget limits. Work may also be performed in various surrounding including waterfront areas, airfields, industrial facilities, residential facilities, construction work and industrial operations. You may be exposed to normal hazards associated with construction work, industrial operations and weather conditions while making inspections. During this time, personal protection equipment (PPE) must be used. This may include: a hard hat, safety shoes, protective clothing, respirator, protective eyewear and earplugs.
