Duties

Help
  • You will serve as the Linux Information Systems Security Officer for the organization.
  • You will serve as IA Officer for the commands network environment to include intrusion detention, security incident handling, site Certification and Accreditation, and compliance with all IAVM/OPORD/EXORD notifications.
  • You will draft proposed policy, guidance, and procedures, applying information security principles, policies, and procedures to ensuring IS reliability and accessibility.
  • You will use UNIX/LINUX scripts and processes, communication software, office productivity software, Windows and UNIX/LINUX operating systems, PKI authentication software, Local Registration Application software and TCP/IP networking.
  • You will administer information technology to Linux systems ensuring effective system operation.
  • You will be expected to possess in-depth experience of IT security certification and accreditation requirements, especially Defense Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process and the Risk Management Framework.
  • You will utilize UNIX/Linux Scripts and processes, communication software, office productivity software, Windows and UNIX/Linux operating systems, and TCP/IP networking.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current certification in the following: CASP, CAP, Security+(CE) or SSCP.
  • You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area Cyberspace Information Technology and Cybersecurity Workforce Management and Qualification Manual within 6 months of appointment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: In addition to Basic Education requirements, one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Planning and coordinating the installation, testing, modifying, upgrading, maintaining, and troubleshooting Linux based hardware and software systems. 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Conducting trend analyses to identify areas where additional customer training and assistance is needed and initiating appropriate action. 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Providing technical advice and consultation to LAN administrators. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Troubleshooting IT security problems that affect the availability of intranet applications and recommending actions that will minimize risks. In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:- Evaluating, recommending the acquisition of, implementing, and disseminating IT security tools, procedures, and practices to protect information assets;- Planning and coordinating the delivery of an IT security awareness training program for end users at all levels;- Updating a contingency or disaster recovery plan in order to respond to new security requirements or changes in the IT architecture;- Identifying and controlling all local area network (LAN) hardware and software configuration; and- Planning, coordinating, and installing applications software and hardware for operating systems.
