Joining the Secret Service, Office of Training, James J. Duties

Help

The selectee will serve as Electronic Crimes Specialist in the Office of Training, James J. Rowley Training Center. Typical work assignments include:

  • Conducts computer forensic exams and data acquisition on both live and offline systems, multiple operating systems (Windows, Apple, Linux, etc.) and mobile devices; and conducting network intrusion examinations and investigations on both live and offline systems, electronic evidence preservation, network analysis, log analysis and malware analysis.
  • Manage electronic crimes cases involving computers, mobile devices, network, servers, and the transit or storage of electronic data.
  • Independently designs, develops, and executes planning decision making processes for course materials for instructions and practical application: lesson plans, support materials, practical exercises development, and use of training areas; and manages, coordinates, and instructs the curricula to provide basic (entry level) to advanced training techniques.

  • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
  • Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside.

Qualifications

GS-13: You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $102,663) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as: providing computer forensic support to investigations in the form of evidence seizure and data recovery, conducting computer forensics analysis, and performing investigative functions in a network environment to include: operating systems architecture, security controls, hardening and testing environments; investigating electronic crimes or cyber cases; instructing an electronic crimes course; and administering an electronic crimes program; and developing training/course material.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. Qualifications Must Be Met: The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
