This position serves as a Human Resources Assistant in the Compensation & Benefits Branch (CBB), Division of Human Resource Management (HRM), Office of Information and Resource Management (OIRM), National Science Foundation (NSF).  The Branch has responsibility for managing the following programs: benefits and retirement, workers’ compensation, Work/Life programs, payroll, and pay and leave administration.

Duties

Help

The incumbent is responsible for supporting the Human Resources Specialists within CBB that manage the benefits (health insurance, life insurance, etc.), retirement, and work/life programs (health unit, child care subsidy, telework, etc.).  Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Providing guidance on benefits and retirement entitlements and the work/life programs;
    • Assisting customers complete forms;
    • Using software to compute service computation dates and prepare retirement estimates;
    • Processing benefits and payroll elections in the Federal Personnel and Payroll System (FPPS);
    • Preparing annuity estimates and assisting employees with completing retirement packages;
    • Preparing benefits separation packages and retirement folders;
    • Provides general guidance and advice on the work/life programs which includes the Nursing Mothers Program, WorkLife4You, the health unit, the Employee Assistance Program, childcare subsidy, and telework;
    • Scanning and indexing into the electronic Official Personnel Folder (eOPF); and
    • Coordinating logistics for meetings, training events, and/or seminars.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-08 grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience for this position includes preparing and/or reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness; obtaining information from files or general reference sources; processing human resources forms into a human resources database/system; and assisting in facilitating new employee orientation.

Education

Education may enhance skills required for this position; however, no substitution of education for specialized experience may be made at this level.

ICTAP and CTAP provide eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
