Duties

Help

  • Provides community-based, integrated treatment plans and furnishes continuing Clinical services to patients and families, while they are learning to live with illness or disability of a family member.
  • Provides limited assistance in conducting comprehensive assessments with each client based on strengths and limitations.
  • Works with other health technicians and psychologist through case staffing.
  • Follows up with patients between scheduled primary care visits to ensure care plan is followed and to help ensure that referrals made for ongoing counseling.
  • Assist in organizing and working with the health/community teams to plan, develop and implement integrate behavioral health programs that meet the needs of the public in the service area.
  • Assists in coordination and conducting meetings with other departments and health professionals to provide support and motivate and maintain interest and involvement in the integrated behavioral health program.
  • Assists health professional in program planning, management, evaluation and reporting.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

Flexibility in duty hours is sometimes required to accommodate activities with schools and/or community. In order to travel, must possess or maintain a valid State Driver License to operate a GSA or privately-owned vehicle. Moderate local travel is anticipated.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at the GS-07 -

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Such experience would include use techniques in evidence-based strategies in primary, secondary and tertiary disease prevention, provide mindfulness based stress reduction practice, able to successfully implement SBIRT (screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment) for substance abuse diagnoses, work with patients to understand barriers to adherence with medications, provide mental health techniques for patients with chronic pain, able to implement behavioral activation or other brief interventions for patients with depression, able to assess for suicidal thoughts or behavior, plan and provide mental health education material, administer screenings for depression, anxiety, suicidality, alcohol and drug use, knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and health concepts to provide mental health education.
  • One full year of graduate education in an area of study directly related to the work of this position.
  • A combination of education and specialized experience listed above. One year of graduate education is equivalent to 18 semester hours unless the school has determined otherwise.
Specialized Experience is defined as: Performing and delivering mental health services and education to patients, their families, communities and the public involving specific rules, regulations or procedures for assignments; promoting health and the prevention of diseases for all ages with outcomes of improved health and well-being from prescribed sets of interventions and/or education; applying knowledge of factors associated with mental, emotional, and social environmental health that was preferably obtained from experience in a healthcare facility.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
