Duties

Help
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, guidance, and regulations involving scientific and ethical matters involved in the protection of human research subjects.
  • Conducts and completes analyses and other studies on varied topics related to human subject protection, using various software database applications.
  • Advises institutional offices, Institutional Review Board (IRB) members and staff, investigators, professional organizations, subject advocates, and members of the public responsible for, or concerned about protections of the human research subjects.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below.

Specialized Experience:

GS-12:
You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that included experience such as:

  • Conducting research related to the protection of human subjects;
  • Evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of human subject protection programs and policies;
OR

GS-13: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service that included experience such as:
  • Conducting research related to the protection of human subjects;
  • Evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of human subject protection programs and policies;
  • Communicating with a variety of audiences regarding human subject protection research.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through national Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
