Summary

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This position is part of the TX 149th Fighter Wing, and is in Kelly AFB, Texas. The primary purpose of this position is to certify acceptable performance, test, repair, trouble-shoot, operationally check and modify aircraft turbine and auxiliary power units, and associated propulsion system components.

Duties

Help

As an AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC with the Texas Air National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Troubleshoots malfunctioning engines and interrelated propulsion system components, determines degree of disassembly or certification required, repairs or replaces defective components, diagnostic computers and associated hardware.
  • Troubleshoots, modifies, repairs, and performs sequential disassembly and assembly of gearboxes and auxiliary power units.
  • Performs scheduled and special evaluations on installed engines, auxiliary power units, and associated airframe-mounted systems. Interprets Engine Management trend data and investigates trend anomalies to eliminate catastrophic engine failure or damage by the prediction and detection of adverse trends towards known failure modes before they occur.
  • Performs command directed and locally established in-progress inspections (IPI) (certifying acceptable performance of all conventional or modified aircraft engines prior to their being installed in the aircraft or placed in inventory) of propulsion system components and associated equipment to determine adequacy of workmanship, materials and maintenance.
  • Requisitions, processes, and accounts for supply assets as required by the repairable processing system.
  • Provides technical advice and troubleshooting expertise to other work centers when propulsion systems affect or are affected by interrelated aircraft systems, such as: electro-environmental, pneudraulic, fuel and avionics systems.
  • Provides on-the-job training to lower graded personnel or newly assigned personnel regardless of grade.
  • Examines recurring malfunctions and initiates corrective actions by submission of quality deficiency or software deficiency reports.
  • Serves as the hazardous materials manager as required. Interprets and follows state and federal regulations regarding the reclamation, storage and transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI), Inspector General (IG) Inspections, Unit Effectiveness Inspections and mobility and command support exercises.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Air National Guard and wear of the military uniform. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Texas Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Texas Air National Guard. Compatible Military Assignment (per UMD): Applicants need not be assigned to the position or possess the AFSC to apply or be considered; however, applicant must be Duty AFSC assigned to a compatible position in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations upon selection.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
To qualify at the WG-10 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting 18 months experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories. Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft. Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis.
