Duties

Help
  • You will in charge of the planning, installation, configuration, testing, implementation, and management the the systems environment.
  • You will be responsible for the day to day technical operation, maintenance and security of a computer system.
  • You will manage/operate computer systems including performing backups, software installations, hardware installations/modifications.
  • You will be in charge of server administration; including group policies, remote administration, virtualization, and operating system baselining.
  • You will be in charge of network administration; including switch and router configuration, firewalls, and VLAN.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for the specialty area/level commensurate with assigned duties within 6 months of appointment.

Qualifications

For the DS-04 level, your resume must demonstrate one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: STRONG ORGANIZATION SKILLS AND THE ABILITY TO PRIORITIZE QUICKLY, AS WELL AS BEING ABLE TO TROUBLESHOOT PROBLEMS EFFICIENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY.
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE OF SERVER ADMINISTRATION, AND NETWORK ADMINISTRATION, AND GOOD CUSTOMER RELATIONS EXPERIENCE.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: BEING ABLE TO WORK AS PART OF A TEAM, EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS, AND THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE WITH OTHERS TO UNDERSTAND THE ORGANIZATION'S IT ARCHITECTURE AND BUSINESS NEEDS.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE OF SECURITY VULNERABILITY REMEDIATION, SYSTEM SCANNING AND PATCHING, HAVING STRONG ANALYTICAL SKILLS, AND HAVING THE ABILITY TO WORK UNDER PRESSURE.
In addition to your experience demonstrating the four competencies above your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-9/10) grade level or pay band (DS-03) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Hands on experience with Linux system administration; 2) Must have experience designing, installing and sustaining a high-performance cluster environment; 3) Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system; 4) Systems configuration experience to include building desktop computer systems and servers, adjusting BIOS settings, driver installation and troubleshooting, and Windows/Unix/Linux shell commands; 5) Design network topologies, and install, setup, and sustain network routers/switches for LAN and WAN configurations; 6) Team leadership or project management experience.

OR

For the DS-05 level, your resume must demonstrate one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:

Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving. Examples of qualifying experience includes the following: 1) Strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize quickly, as well as being able to troubleshoot problems efficiently and effectively; 2) Advanced knowledge of server administration, and network administration, and good customer relations experience; 3) Being able to work as part of a team, excellent communication skills, and the ability to communicate with others to understand the organization's it architecture and business needs; 4) Advanced knowledge of security vulnerability remediation, system scanning and patching, having strong analytical skills, and having the ability to work under pressure.

For DS-04 Level ONLY

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

OR

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
