Duties

Help
  • Performs software configuration management services including installation, version control, modification, and related procedures.
  • Provides technical support for the day-to-day operations of developmental and operational software.
  • Builds and deploys a diverse library of software to meet system and operational requirements.
  • Supports the organization in combining technology and science to provide weather and oceanographic products, data, and services.
  • Works with senior software teams to identify and incorporate new technologies and practices to improve software.

  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must particpate in a continuous learning program as described in SECNAVINST 1543.2, a minimum of 40 hours of Cyber IT/CSWF related continuous learning annually.
  • This position requires the employee to obtain a Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Occasional CONUS and OCONUS travel, less than 10% is required. The incumbent must be eligible for a passport.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-12: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector such as:

- Writes and or maintain configuration management software and scripts written in Perl or Python for Linux operating systems or related operating systems
- Utilizes compilers for software configuration management
- Manages software version tracking and control
- Programming in JAVA, Fortran, ANSI C, or ANSI C++ or related systems and manages
- Modifies software configuration processes and procedures to meet the needs of Cyber Security and system dependencies.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector such as:

  • Utilizes shell scripts in Perl or Python for Linux, Unix, or similar operating systems;
  • Performs software quality assurance, monitoring, reviewing, and related testing and measurement; and
  • Assists with installation, coordination, and/or modification of software applications.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Reviewing your information technology related work to ensure you followed the instructions provided in job aids and standard operating procedures before turning it in for higher level review.

2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Helping end users change the desktop display configurations on their workstations.

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Presenting training to end users on how to create an account and submit help-tickets in a new information technology system.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Resolving common issues end users have when using an information technology system.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
